Distortion And Deception

An Expose on NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)

During the late 1980’s it was discovered that perception was heavily influenced by the ability to describe that perception with words.

This implied that words could alter the perception of reality.

This was rapidly exploited in the cultural viewpoint of seeing the brain as a clockwork mechanism that could be programmed like a computer.

It took 15 years, and many injured minds to demonstrate that the mind is not the clockwork assumed, and does not respond well to forced programming, resulting in PTSD and psychosis for many participants.

To this day the application of words to distort perception is still readily and endemically applied in corporate marketing and government rhetoric, to manipulate the populist viewpoint.

NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) has been seen by the mass media as the default tool for manipulating debate and controlling outcomes of voting systems.

It is now the primary management tool for farming the public viewpoint.

This is evidenced by the UK government’s use of NLP within it’s ‘nudge’ unit, and the successful jihad / crusade of turning management training systems into NLP factories.

Therapeutic applications

NLP works by changing the verbal landscape which allows for changing the perception of all internal events.

It achieves this by subtly distorting the meaning of words, and implications of associations, so that perception is shifted along with meaning, resulting in a changed viewpoint.

The problem is that the mind in made of three separate components. The id , the ego, and the superego.

Much as the NLP will alter the ego and the superego, it cannot alter the founding viewpoint of the id, thus the unresolved issues remain unresolved, and the ego is placed in a state of self-deception that matters are solved.

It is a bit like finding a way to lock your problems into a closet with a really good key, the problem is the closet door is not that strong and can be dissipated by any submergence in the original word patterns.

In other words, the NLP is entirely dependent upon the language patterns NOT changing.

Any change of language patterns, such as learning a language, habituating to a local cultural idiom, or empathically experiencing another’s world view, will automatically undermine the patterns of NLP, thus allowing the closet door to collapse.

NLP is a house of cards !

To its advocates, NLP is the best thing since sliced bread as it allows a quick fix for avoiding dealing with the messy business of processing repressed emotions and thoughts.

This idea that one can side step the issues that counselling normally deals with is very popular.

However, as any long-term experienced counsellor will attest, avoidance is only ever temporarily successful.

Thus the application of NLP as a therapeutic tool, is the application of avoidance, and only ever a temporary fix!

Evidence of Harm

Despite the triumphalism of its advocates, NLP continues to demonstrate negative mass cultural impacts.

The most obvious of these is a necessary cognitive isolation, and empathic avoidance (sociopathy), to maintain the artifice of the NLP system.

Thus NLP is more like a dependency trick than a valid cure or treatment for mental health issues, as the individual becomes completely dependent upon the NLP mode of operation to validate their acquired perception.

NLP becomes a prison for the mind, along with the induced paranoia, and fear of anything hidden.

All practitioners of NLP are quite literally selling a product that they themselves are dependent upon.

It could be suggested that NLP is like a religion.

Certainly, in common with all religions, we find the fundamentalism, and avoidance neurosis and consequent psychosis, are well demonstrated.

The biggest impact from the widespread use of NLP is the clear habituation to self-deception and distortion of perceptions of reality like cognitive dissonance and infantilism.

It has even pervaded the education sphere with the idea that all points of view are equally valid (no wrong answers), and that all activities are equally valid (no moral center).

This suggests a widespread mental health issue as a direct result of the application of NLP.

Solutions

It is clear that the skills of critical thinking and scientific method are foundational to resistance to NLP.

They are accordingly advocated by many who have observed the collapse in cognitive ability throughout the modern world.

Another major skill that can bring clarity to a self-deceiving mindset is the application of the concept of relativity.

Fundamentalism cannot survive exposure to relativity.

Accordingly

  • Maintaining diversity
  • Increasing the public debate on contextual analysis
  • Qualitative analysis as opposed to quantitative analysis,

Are essential to mitigate the harm from NLP.

I encourage all free thinkers to disseminate this note widely!
